Big changes in store for Honey Run Golf Course

Facility is under new ownership

Honey Run Golf Course is under new ownership.

Kenneth Kochenour and Ron Jaworski, in a joint partnership, have purchased the facility, it was announced in a news release on Thursday.

Kochenour, a York College graduate, previously owned the facility. He is the founder and owner of GF Management, LLC.

Jaworski is a former quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles who is now an NFL analyst on ESPN. Jaworski played for the Eagles for 10 years and led the team to the Super Bowl in 1981.

Kochenour and Jaworski have been partners for many years, according to the news release, and the two men plan to make "numerous upgrades," to the course.

"We're proud to be back in York, PA." Kochenour said in the news release. "It is my home town and we look to a bright future for Honey Run."

Kochenour, who could not be reached for comment Thursday evening, said in the news release that he and Jaworski hope to make Honey Run a world class facility. He also said the course "holds a special place in his heart," and that he remembers playing the course as a young man.

Kochenour has more than 20 years experience in owning and operating hotel and resort facilities.

In the past, there was wide speculation that Honey Run, located in both West Manchester and Dover townships, would fall to development. In fact, Troon Golf Inc., a previous owner of Honey Run and Hawk Lake golf courses, presented plans to West Manchester Township to build homes on both courses.

But the company reached a settlement agreement in 2006 with West Manchester Township. Under the agreement, Hawk Lake, which was also located in West Manchester Township, fell under a mixed-use zoning that allowed for commercial and residential development. The course was shut down shortly thereafter.

Also under the agreement, Honey Run was deed-restricted as a golf course in both West Manchester and Dover townships.

Honey Run, which was opened in 1971, is a par-72 course that stretches 6,797 yards from the championship tees.

In the past, it has played host to both Nike Tour (now Nationwide Tour) and Futures Tour tournaments.

The Kochenour-Jaworski partnership also own and manage the following courses:
-Lakeview Resort, Morgantown, West VA
-Biltmore Resort, Clearwater, Fla
-Edgewood in the Pines, Drums, PA
-Woodridge Plantation, Mineral Wells, West VA
-Valleywood, Toledo, Ohio
